CGI Construction in Palo Alto, CA | Moreno Valley Builders
We provide independent CGI cabinetry, quartz countertop, and bath vanity service across Palo Alto, from Professorville bungalows to south-side Eichler tracts, and also offer CGI service in West Menlo Park. The biggest difference here isn’t the product line, it’s knowing that Palo Alto’s tree ordinance and neighborhood compatibility review can stall a kitchen order before a single cabinet box ships. If you’re pricing new CGI cabinets or repairing existing ones, call Noel Trevino and the team at Moreno Valley Builders at (877) 752-3154. We’ll tell you what the city will actually let you build, then order the millwork accordingly.
Why Palo Alto Residents Choose Us for CGI Service
We’ve spent years installing and correcting CGI cabinetry and quartz packages across Palo Alto’s aging wood-frame stock. That means we know how these boxes fit, rack, and get scribed against walls that were never square. A 1920s Professorville bungalow and a 1950s Eichler have almost nothing in common structurally, but both punish a frameless cabinet box that gets set without proper shimming. We work independently of CGI and carry no manufacturer authorization, which means we specify the doors and hardware that survive this climate rather than what a dealer is pushing. Noel Trevino grew up building and renovating homes across the Inland Empire and learned construction technology at Riverside City College, where framing and mechanical coursework gave him a foundation that held up better than a lot of what he later had to tear out and redo. If the details aren’t right on paper, they won’t be right in the wall.

Common CGI Construction Problems We Solve in Palo Alto
- Cabinet boxes racking out of square. Where original 1920s framing meets a mid-century addition, the floor and wall never line up. Frameless CGI boxes installed without correction drift within a couple of seasons, and doors that closed at install start rubbing or hanging visibly crooked. We rebuild the substrate and re-scribe before we reset the boxes.
- Thermofoil and laminate door faces blistering at the bottom rail. Pre-war Palo Alto bungalows have shallow, often uninsulated wall cavities. When a range vents against that exterior wall, condensation collects at the base of the upper cabinet run. Thermofoil peels, laminate swells. On a Professorville house off Waverley, we re-sealed the corner where the range vent met the wall and replaced the failed door faces before setting new uppers on a leveled cleat.
- Radiant-slab-driven expansion on Eichler floor-line cabinets. Original Eichler radiant heat keeps the slab side of a base cabinet warm and dry while the toe kick and adjacent wall stay cold. That differential expands and contracts the box unevenly, which splits seams and de-laminates the base over time. We address the cabinet, but we also level and isolate the base from the slab’s heat path.
- Corroded hardware and swollen particle-board core on peninsula runs. Old single-pane sliders facing winter storm moisture let damp air track along the floor. Hinges and slides corrode, and unsealed penetrations at the back of a peninsula cabinet wick moisture into the core. We swap in aftermarket hardware with better moisture tolerance and seal every edge and penetration before re-hanging doors.
- Quartz countertops set on uneven substrates. South Palo Alto additions and original Eichler floors rarely share a flat plane. Setting a stone top on an unleveled base stresses the seam and can crack the slab. We level the substrate first, then template and set the top.
CGI Service in Palo Alto: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Palo Alto’s tree-protection ordinance covering mature heritage oaks and redwoods can force an arborist review and constrain the crane or delivery path and even the footprint of a rear kitchen addition before a permit is pulled. That’s not a building-code issue, it’s a city-process issue, and it hits kitchen work harder than most trades. On a CGI cabinet and countertop job, we don’t release the millwork order until tree review clears. A set of frameless boxes sitting in a Palo Alto garage through a wet October warps, and a quartz slab leaning against a damp wall stains at the contact points. We’ve seen it happen to homeowners who ordered cabinets early to “save time” and ended up with doors that never closed true. In Palo Alto, the order of operations isn’t design, order, permit. It’s permit, tree review, order.
CGI Models & Products We Service in Palo Alto
We install, reface, and repair CGI’s Euro-style frameless full-overlay cabinetry, shaker-profile solid-wood door cabinets, quartz countertop packages, and bath vanity and linen cabinet lines. When a homeowner is matching an existing run or wants factory finish consistency, we use CGI’s own doors, boxes, and hardware. When moisture tolerance matters more than the label, we go to quality aftermarket hinges, slides, and toe-kick seals. We keep a running stock of common shaker door sizes, hinge sets, and edge banding locally so a Palo Alto repair doesn’t wait on a factory order. For full factory replacement we order direct, but we always check the lead time and tree-review status before the boxes ship. See our full CGI sales & service page for what we carry and what we order.

FAQs – CGI Construction in Palo Alto
In most cases, no. Swapping cabinets in the same footprint and layout typically falls under finish work with no permit required in Palo Alto. If you’re moving plumbing, relocating a wall, or changing the kitchen’s footprint in an Eichler, the city will want plans and a permit, and the radiant slab adds a level of review. Call (877) 752-3154 and we’ll tell you whether your specific scope needs one.
Two reasons, usually working together. Original Eichler slabs move with the radiant heat cycle, which shifts the floor that the cabinets sit on. And the original framing in many south Palo Alto additions was never square. Frameless CGI boxes installed without shimming and a solid substrate will rack out of alignment within a couple of seasons. We fix it at the base, not just the hinge.
Yes. Palo Alto’s tree-protection ordinance can trigger an arborist review for any construction near a mature heritage oak or redwood, and that review can constrain the footprint, the crane path, or the delivery route before the city issues a permit. We don’t order your millwork until that review clears. It’s slower, but it’s cheaper than watching a garage full of cabinet boxes warp through a wet winter.
Palo Alto’s rain-shadow climate dumps most of its moisture between October and April. If a kitchen or shower wall gets opened during a wet stretch in a house with old single-pane sliders or uninsulated wall cavities, you get condensation exactly where you don’t want it: at the back of new cabinet boxes and at the base of shower surrounds. We schedule substrate and sealing work around the forecast and won’t set a box against a damp cavity. Call (877) 752-3154 to talk through timing for your project.
If the core is dry and sound, we repair and re-scribe the boxes and replace just the failed faces and hardware, which saves you thousands. If the particle-board core has swollen or multiple door faces have failed on the same run, full replacement makes more sense. We’ll open a panel and show you what we’re seeing before we quote either path. Estimates are free at (877) 752-3154.
